Jowling and lower face definition assessment at Body Dezign House Newstead, Brisbane
Lower Face Definition

Jowling & Lower Face DefinitionNewstead, Brisbane

Body Dezign House is a doctor-led clinic in Newstead, Brisbane. Jowls form when the soft tissue along the lower face slowly slips below the clean line of the jaw, so the jawline looks softer than it once did. Every consultation here is guided by your anatomy, looks at the whole lower face, and comes with no obligation to go ahead.

Understanding Jowling

Jowling
in Brisbane

About Dr Asadi
The jowl that softens the lower face is the result of several layers settling at once. Reading the bone, the fat pockets, the ligaments, and the skin as separate things is what changes the conversation. Not every layer is best answered without surgery, and a good assessment says so plainly.

Our approach is careful and honest. We look at what is actually driving the jowling, what your anatomy allows, and whether any option is genuinely right for your situation.

Jowling Assessment

Areas Commonly
Assessed

Jowling can come from several parts of the lower face: jawline definition, where the mid-face sits, skin quality, and the slow changes in bone and ligaments over time. A good jowling assessment in Brisbane looks at all of these together, rather than one at a time.

Most Commonly Assessed

Jawline Definition
& Contour

How clean the jawline looks from the front and the side is what most people notice first when jowls start. A jowl that breaks the line in front of the chin is often the earliest sign you can see. Assessment looks at the whole edge of the jaw, where the pre-jowl sulcus (the dip in front of the jowl) sits, and how the soft tissue rests on the bone beneath.

Pre-Jowl
Sulcus

The small dip that forms in front of the jowl, between the corner of the mouth and the jaw, is the pre-jowl sulcus. It often deepens before the jowl itself stands out. It is assessed alongside the jowl, as a linked pair.

Skin Quality
& Laxity

As collagen, elastin, and firmness drop, the lower face holds its shape less well. Assessment looks at texture, hydration, and stretch as part of the whole picture.

Mid-Face
& Cheek Position

Jowling rarely sits on its own. Fullness that has slipped down from the cheek often shows up in the lower face. Assessment includes where the mid-face sits, because supporting it can soften how the jowl looks.

Age-Related
Tissue Descent

With age, small changes in bone height, the position of the fat pockets, and ligament strength quietly reshape the lower face. The cheek settles lower, the pre-jowl sulcus deepens, and the once-clean jawline softens. These are assessed as part of the whole lower face, not as a single feature.

Chin-to-Neck
Transition

How the lower jaw flows into the neck shapes how clean the lower face looks in profile. It is assessed alongside the jowl, the jawline, and the area under the chin as a whole.

Clinical Philosophy
When the line from ear to chin stops reading as one clean edge, what looks like loose skin is usually four layers moving together. The body slowly reabsorbs bone in the lower jaw, the cheek fat pockets slide forward, the ligaments loosen, and the skin loses collagen. I read each layer on its own, and I refer you on when a face-lift opinion is the right next step.

Approaches

Treatments We
May Discuss

The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. Your recommendation may include one option, a combination, or a different approach altogether after your skin has been properly assessed at our Brisbane clinic.

Tissue Support & Lifting

Ultherapy

Focused ultrasound that reaches the support layer beneath the skin to encourage tightening and firmer support. Often discussed for early to moderate jowling, where skin laxity and slow tissue sagging are part of the picture. A dedicated consultation is needed to see if it suits you.

Aptos Thread Lifts

A gentle lift using fine threads to reposition and support the soft tissue along the cheek and jawline, helping refine the lower face. Dr Asadi is an Official Trainer for Aptos Threads.

Collagen Stimulation & Skin Tightening

Morpheus 8

Combines radiofrequency energy with microneedling to work on deeper tissue and tighten the skin surface. May suit jowling where skin laxity, texture, and lower face shape are part of the conversation.

Vivace RF Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling that aims to firm and improve skin quality across the lower face. Often discussed alongside other tightening options as part of a layered plan for the jowl area.

Regenerative Treatments

Rejuran

A polynucleotide treatment (a repair-support treatment) that helps the skin repair, hold water, and stay supple across the lower face and jowl area. Discussed where better skin quality can sit alongside deeper support.

PRP

Uses your own platelet-rich plasma to encourage repair and better skin quality. Often considered as part of a layered approach for early jowling and firmer lower face skin.

Exosome Therapy

A regenerative therapy that supports skin healing and quality at the cell level. Discussed alongside other treatments where overall skin condition is part of the lower face conversation.

Lower Face Support & Sculpting

Facial Sculpting

The lower face can be shaped using treatments that add support in specific areas such as the jawline, pre-jowl sulcus, chin, and mid-face, helping rebalance the contour around the jowl. Whether this suits you, which areas to work on, and which treatments fit your anatomy is only decided at a full consultation.

Jawline Strengthening

This looks at jawline definition and support in relation to the jowl, chin, and the balance of the lower face. Where it suits you, the jawline can be strengthened using treatments that reinforce the bony line under the soft tissue.

Skin Boosters

Skin Booster

The lower face skin can be supported using treatments that improve hydration, firmness, and surface quality across the cheeks and jaw area. Where skin condition adds to how the jowl looks, skin boosters may be discussed as part of a broader plan for the lower face. Whether skin boosters suit you, which areas to work on, and which treatments fit your anatomy is only decided at a full consultation.

Skin Quality Support

PRX-Plus

A skin-renewing treatment applied to the surface that aims to improve firmness, brightness, and texture without breaking the skin. Often paired with other lower face approaches as part of a thoughtful plan.

Skin Needling

A gentle microneedling treatment that prompts collagen and supports skin quality across the lower face. Discussed where better skin texture and firmness is part of the broader jowl conversation.

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. Whether a treatment suits you, what might rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Questions

Frequently
Asked

Sometimes. Mild to moderate jowling from skin laxity, loosening ligaments, or early tissue sagging may respond to jowl treatment in Brisbane. More advanced jowling with a lot of loose skin is often better assessed by a plastic surgeon.

Jowling is rarely down to one thing. The bone of the lower jaw slowly loses height, the fat pockets in the cheek slide forward and down, the ligaments that hold cheek tissue to the jawbone loosen, and the skin loses collagen and stretch. Each layer plays a part, and assessment looks at all of them.

There is no single age. For some, mild jowling can start in the late thirties; others do not notice it until their fifties or later. Genes, bone structure, weight changes, and years of Brisbane sun all play a part. Early signs are usually subtle and best looked at in person at our Newstead clinic.

It depends on the treatment, the layers being worked on, your anatomy, and lifestyle. Your clinician will talk through how long results tend to last at your consultation, based on the approach suggested. Individual results vary.

Jowls are rarely just skin. In most cases bone, fat, ligaments, and skin all play a part, and the jowl you see is the surface result of changes deeper down. This is why surface-only treatments may not reach the cause, and why a layered jowl assessment in Brisbane is part of careful care.

Sometimes, and sometimes not. A lot of weight loss can occasionally make jowling more obvious, because the skin and soft tissue lose the fullness that used to support them. Managing your weight is good for your health, but it is rarely a complete answer for jowling on its own. We talk through this in context at your consultation.

All cosmetic procedures carry risks, including bruising, swelling, uneven results, infection, problems with blood vessels, and a result you are not happy with. The exact risks depend on the treatment and are explained in full at your consultation, and again on the day. Full information is on our Risks & Complications page.
