This depends on the concern being treated and your skin. Some concerns can be treated in a single session, while others do better with a course of treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. We discuss how many sessions you may need at your consultation. Individual results vary, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
Most people have redness, swelling, and some peeling for several days to about a week after treatment. How long it lasts depends on how deep and strong the treatment was, and it varies from person to person. Your clinician will talk through what to expect for your plan at your consultation, so you can plan around it.
Yes. Stay out of the sun for at least two to four weeks before, and use SPF 50+ every day. Active skincare like retinoids and exfoliating acids is usually paused for a few days before your session. If you get cold sores in the area, tell your clinician at your consultation, as we may recommend an antiviral to prevent a flare-up. Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and skincare.
Most people describe warmth and a mild snapping or stinging feeling during treatment. We apply a numbing cream beforehand to keep you comfortable, and for deeper treatments we may also use a local anaesthetic to numb the area. Your clinician talks through your comfort options before every session.
Keep the area clean with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, and apply the healing ointment we recommend. Try not to rub or pick at peeling skin. Stay out of direct sun, and use a mineral SPF 50+ once your skin has settled. Avoid saunas, hard exercise, and swimming until you have healed. Bring active skincare back in slowly. We give you detailed aftercare instructions on the day.
Like any laser that removes the skin's surface, CO2 resurfacing carries some risks. These include redness that lasts longer than expected, changes in pigmentation, infection, scarring, swelling, blistering, and a result you are not happy with. How likely these are depends on your skin type, the treatment used, and how closely you follow the aftercare. We talk through all the risks in full at your consultation.
