Décolletage & Upper Chest CareNewstead, Brisbane
Body Dezign House is a doctor-led clinic in Newstead, Brisbane. Your chest skin goes through the same sun, air, and years as your face. But it is thinner and has less natural padding, so it often ages in its own way. At Body Dezign House in Newstead, Brisbane, every consultation is guided by your anatomy. We look at your décolletage on its own terms, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
The décolletage is never looked at on its own. The décolletage reads differently from the front, from the side, and from above, and each view is shaped by different things. All three are part of every assessment. How the décolletage sits with the neck, the lower face, and the surrounding sun-exposed skin matters in any honest conversation about options.Dr Fatemeh Asadi, MD, FRACGP
Dr Fatemeh Asadi, MD, FRACGP brings two decades in cosmetic medicine and general practice to every consultation. She is a Key Opinion Leader for Merz Aesthetics and an Official Trainer for Aptos Threads. This reflects her ongoing role in cosmetic medicine education, including attending national and international conferences, training other doctors and nurses, and contributing her clinical knowledge to the wider medical aesthetics community.
Our approach to the décolletage is careful and honest. We look at what is really driving the change you have noticed, what the layers above and below the skin allow, and whether any option is truly right for your situation.
Areas Commonly
Assessed
Décolletage concerns can come from a few different things: change at the surface, deeper change in the skin's structure, a history of sun, or a mix of all three. Every assessment at our Brisbane clinic starts with your anatomy, not with a treatment.
Skin Tone
& Sun Marks
The most common thing people ask about is uneven colour: patchy tone, sunspots, freckling, and the mottled look that years of sun leave behind. We look at how deep the colour sits and how it is spread, whether it is from sun or from hormones, and how the décolletage compares with the face. The décolletage often shows more sun ageing than the face, simply because most of us stop putting sunscreen on below the jawline.
Crepiness
& Surface Texture
Crepey skin on the décolletage has that thin, crinkled, paper-like look. It comes from the skin growing thinner and losing its stretch, not from dryness. We look at how the texture sits when you are still, how it stretches and springs back, and whether it covers the whole décolletage or only certain spots.
Vertical
Sleep Lines
The vertical lines that form between the breasts from sleeping on your side are one of the most common reasons people come in. We look at how deep they are, how set-in they have become, and how much stretch the skin underneath still has.
Skin Elasticity
& Laxity
Décolletage skin loses its bounce earlier than facial skin, because it is naturally thinner and has fewer oil glands to support it. We do a gentle pinch-and-release check across the central V and the surrounding décolletage. We also look at how the skin moves with your upper body.
Sun Damage
& Photoageing
Sun is by far the biggest reason the décolletage changes. It often shows more sun ageing than the face, because the face has been better protected over the years with sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. We look at your history in the sun and the signs of long-term sun damage, such as yellow-toned, leathery skin. We also check whether small broken vessels or lasting redness are part of the picture. We read all of this alongside the rest of the décolletage, so any approach looks at the whole area, not just one part.
Underlying Volume
& Hollows
With age, the décolletage slowly loses some of the fat cushion that sits under the skin. The skin itself also grows thinner as collagen and elastin fall away. With less padding underneath, the soft hollows above and below the collarbones can deepen. The sternum can also start to show through a little more. We look at this as part of the wider décolletage picture, not as a problem on its own.
The décolletage often looks older in an open neckline than it feels to you from the inside. Crepey or sun-marked skin here is usually three things at once: skin that was thinner to begin with, decades of sun the face was spared, and the quiet loss of collagen and stretch underneath. A good consultation looks at the décolletage on its own, and is honest about what skin treatments can soften and what they cannot undo.Dr Fatemeh Asadi MD, FRACGP · GP & Cosmetic Physician
Your Consultation
in Brisbane
Your consultation at our Brisbane clinic starts with a conversation about your concerns and what you would like to achieve. We review your medical history, carefully assess the décolletage and upper chest, and use VISIA skin analysis where appropriate to gain a better understanding of your skin's condition. We then explain our findings, discuss the treatment options that may be suitable for you, and answer your questions so you have a clear understanding of the benefits, possible risks, and alternatives before deciding whether to proceed. Treatments We
May Discuss
The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. Your recommendation may include one option, a combination, or a different approach altogether after your skin has been properly assessed at our Brisbane clinic.
Skin Boosters
Décolletage skin quality can be supported with treatments that hydrate the skin and help its texture and stretch, which matters in this thinner-skinned area. Whether a skin booster suits your décolletage, and which treatments suit your skin, is decided only at a full consultation.
PRX Plus
A topical treatment that supports skin quality, hydration, and surface firmness without breaking the surface of the skin. It may suit crepey or sun-marked décolletage skin when you would prefer a gentler approach with little downtime. The number of sessions, the timing, and whether it suits you are discussed at a full consultation.
Lumecca IPL
Intense pulsed light aimed at pigment, sun spots, and small broken vessels on the décolletage. It may suit sun damage, uneven tone, and visible vessel change. A consultation is needed to work out whether it suits you and what the right plan would be.
Clear & Brilliant
A gentle laser that supports skin renewal, evens out tone, and smooths surface texture across the décolletage, with little downtime. It may suit early pigment, dullness, and fine surface change. A course of sessions is usually discussed at your consultation.
Morpheus 8
Radiofrequency microneedling that works on deeper layers of skin to help texture and support. It can be worth discussing when the décolletage shows both surface change and some looseness underneath.
Ultherapy
Microfocused ultrasound that sends energy into deeper layers of the skin to support collagen and firmness. It may come up when the décolletage has lost some stretch and a firming approach is suitable. Whether it suits you is decided only after a full assessment.
CO2 Laser Resurfacing
CO2 Laser Resurfacing may suit décolletage skin with texture change, fine lines, or surface ageing, when it is clinically appropriate. Whether it suits you depends on your skin type, your concern, how much downtime you can take, and a medical assessment.
Collagen Stimulation
Firmness and support across the décolletage may be helped with treatments that encourage your body to make its own collagen over time. Whether this suits your skin, and how a course is planned, is decided only at a full consultation.
All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. Whether a treatment suits you, what might rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Frequently
Asked
Décolletage skin is thinner than facial skin to start with, has fewer oil glands, and rarely gets the sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses the face usually does. So it tends to show more sun ageing, more fine crepiness, and pigment patterns the face does not share. Both the difference in the skin itself and the years of sun, which add up quickly in Brisbane's strong UV, are assessed at your consultation.
For the right person, sun damage, pigment, and uneven tone on the décolletage may be helped. We use a mix of clinic-based treatments, such as gentle fractional laser, intense pulsed light, and skin-quality work. How much you can expect depends on how deep the pigment sits, your skin type, and how well you can protect the area from the sun afterwards. Individual results vary, and the right approach is decided at your consultation.
Vertical décolletage lines usually come from years of sleeping on your side, when the upper chest is pressed together night after night. They set in more deeply as the skin underneath loses its stretch. Options such as skin-quality treatments, collagen-stimulating devices, and a change in sleep position, may help soften them, especially when you start early. Whether and how to work on them is discussed at your consultation.
Mild to moderate sun damage, surface crepiness, fine lines, and reduced skin quality are well suited to a décolletage assessment. More marked skin laxity, sagging of the décolletage tissue, or anything to do with the breast itself is often better assessed by a plastic surgeon. Whether you are a good candidate depends on your skin, your sun history, your hormonal stage, and your goals, and is decided at a consultation.
Most décolletage skin-quality treatments work by encouraging the skin to renew itself, and that takes time. We stage treatments at our Newstead clinic in Brisbane with that in mind. You usually see change over several weeks to a few months after a course, and some upkeep is part of any honest chat about results. How long it lasts depends on the treatment, how well you protect your skin from the sun afterwards, and how your own skin behaves. Individual results vary.
We often assess the décolletage alongside the face in a single consultation at our Newstead clinic in Brisbane, especially when the tone, texture, and sun ageing are similar in both areas. Whether the two can be treated in the same session depends on the approach we suggest, how well your skin tolerates it, and the downtime involved. This is one of the things we go through carefully during the assessment.
All cosmetic procedures carry risks, including bruising, swelling, unevenness, infection, problems with blood vessels, and a result you are not happy with. The exact risks depend on the treatment. We explain them in full at your consultation and again on the day. You can read more on our Risks & Complications page.
