Fat Freezing or CryolipolysisNewstead, Brisbane
Body Dezign House is a doctor-led clinic in Newstead, Brisbane. Fat freezing, also called cryolipolysis, uses careful cooling to target a stubborn pocket of fat just under the skin. It is for fat that has not shifted with diet and exercise. At our clinic we use the Cristal device, which has a range of handpieces, including one made for under the chin. This is not a weight loss treatment. Every course starts with a consultation, an honest assessment, and a clear chat about what it can and cannot do.

Results develop gradually over roughly 4 to 12 weeks. Individual results vary. No outcome guaranteed.

Once the cold has done its work, your body clears those fat cells over weeks, not days. All fat freezing does is start that process in one spot, without disturbing the skin, nerves or blood vessels around it. In a good consultation, I look at how much fat is there, the quality of the skin over it, and whether the area will need extra support once the fat reduces. And I am honest about the part that diet and exercise still have to play.Dr Fatemeh Asadi, MD, FRACGP

Our approach is careful and honest. We look at what is really driving your concern. It might be a stubborn pocket of fat that has not shifted with diet and exercise, looser skin over the area, or a mix of these. We also look at whether any treatment is genuinely right for you.
Areas Commonly
Treated
The Cristal device has a handpiece for each part of the body. At our Newstead clinic in Brisbane, we assess every area on its own before booking a session, and choose the handpiece that fits the shape of your fat fold.
Abdomen
& Lower Abdomen
The upper and lower tummy are the areas we treat most often. We look at both the pinchable fat fold and the skin over it. If the skin is already a little loose (skin laxity), pairing Cristal for the fat with Evolve X for the skin can give a better result than fat freezing on its own. This area suits a pocket of lower tummy fat that stays put even when your weight is steady.
Flanks
& Love Handles
The flanks, or love handles, respond well to fat freezing. The fat fold here usually draws neatly into the handpiece and takes to the treatment. We look at the size and shape of the fold on each side, and whether to treat the flanks with the tummy or on their own.
Under Chin
Submental
The Cristal Agate handpiece is made for under the chin (the submental area). It comes in three sizes to suit different chins. Here we look at where the fat sits, the shape of the neck, and the quality of the skin below the jaw.
Inner & Outer
Thighs
We can treat both the inner and outer thighs with their own handpieces. The inner thigh is one of the most asked-about areas, and it often does well with fat freezing (Cristal) followed by skin-firming work (Evolve X Tite). For the outer thigh, we also look at any cellulite concerns, since the two often go together.
Upper Arms
& Back
We can treat upper arm fat and back rolls, including the fat under the bra line, with the right Cristal handpieces. These areas need a careful look. Fat freezing needs enough fat to draw into the handpiece, so it comes down to how much is there. Where the issue is mainly loose skin (skin laxity) rather than a real fat fold, Evolve X Tite on its own may suit you better. We work out which approach fits your body, and we talk it through honestly before booking anything.
Stable Weight
& Lifestyle
Fat freezing is not for obesity, and not for when you are actively trying to lose weight. It suits you best when your weight is steady, you are keeping up with diet and exercise, and you have a realistic idea of what fat freezing can and cannot do.
Once the cold has done its work, your body clears the treated fat cells over weeks, not days. Fat freezing simply starts that process in one area, while the skin, nerves and blood vessels around it are left untouched. What I care about in a consultation is the fat layer, the skin above it, and whether the area will need extra support once the fat reduces. And I will always be honest about the part that diet and exercise still have to play.Dr Fatemeh Asadi MD, FRACGP · GP & Cosmetic Physician

Treatments We
May Discuss
The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. At Body Dezign House we use the Cristal device for fat freezing, and where loose skin (skin laxity) is also a concern, we may talk about pairing it with Evolve X. Whether a treatment suits you, and which areas to treat, is decided at a full consultation at our Newstead, Brisbane clinic. Individual results vary. No outcome can be guaranteed.
Cristal Fat Freezing: Body
The Cristal body handpieces treat the tummy, flanks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms and back. We choose the handpiece to match the size and shape of your fat fold. The temperature is set between -5°C and -12°C for each area, for 40 to 60 minutes per handpiece. Gentle suction holds the fat fold in the cooling cup through the session. Results build over 8 to 12 weeks as your body clears the treated cells. We may look at a second session at 3 months if it would help. Diet and exercise stay important during and after treatment.
Cristal Agate: Under Chin (Submental)
The Cristal Agate handpiece is made for under the chin, for a pocket of fat under the chin. It comes in three sizes to suit different chins. Before booking, we look at where the fat sits, the quality of the skin below the jaw, and the shape of the neck. We only treat this area after a careful look, and we talk through a realistic result for you beforehand.
Cristal + Evolve X Body Remodelling
Where fat freezing suits the fat layer and there is loose skin now, or we expect some later, pairing Cristal with Evolve X can give a more complete result. Evolve X Tite uses radiofrequency to firm the skin, and Evolve Transform works on skin and muscle tone together. We usually do Cristal first, then Evolve X once the fat results have settled at 3 months. We plan the order and the mix with you at your consultation.
Diet, Exercise & Weight Stability
Fat freezing treats a set pocket of fat when your weight is steady. It does not stop you gaining weight. Each area has a fixed number of fat cells, and the ones left after treatment can still grow if you eat more than your body uses. To keep your result, you need to keep exercising, eat sensibly, and hold a steady weight. We talk about this at every consultation, not as fine print but as a real part of the plan. Your lifestyle is the foundation, and Cristal handles what lifestyle cannot reach.
All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. One rare risk is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where the treated fat grows rather than shrinks. Whether a treatment suits you, anything that would rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary. No outcome can be guaranteed. Read about Risks & Complications →

Frequently
Asked
Fat cells handle cold differently from the skin and tissue around them. They are more sensitive to it. When we cool the area to a controlled, below-zero temperature, the fat cells slowly die off in a natural way, while the skin, nerves and blood vessels nearby are left alone. Over the following weeks, your body clears the treated cells away through the lymphatic system, the network that drains fluid and waste. The change shows up gradually over 2 to 3 months, not straight away. Individual results vary.
Fat freezing does not show results straight away. Your body takes 8 to 12 weeks to clear the treated fat cells. Some people notice early changes around 4 to 6 weeks. We usually assess the full result at 3 months. We may talk about a second session then, depending on what we see. Individual results vary.
A typical course is three sessions, about a month apart. We space them out because your body needs to fully clear the treated fat cells before we treat the same area again. The Cristal device lets us treat more than one area in a single visit, using different handpieces. How many sessions you need, and whether the full three is right for you, depends on the area, how much fat is there, and what we find at the assessment. Individual results vary.
No. Fat freezing targets set pockets of fat in specific areas. It will not move the number on the scales much, and it is not a treatment for obesity. It suits people who are at or near a steady weight, eating well and exercising, but finding that certain pockets of fat just will not shift. Diet and exercise still matter during and after any course of fat freezing.
Yes. Fat freezing with Cristal and Evolve X body remodelling can work well together, one after the other. Cristal takes care of the pocket of fat under the skin. Evolve X, and the Tite handpiece in particular, uses radiofrequency to firm any skin that looks looser as the fat reduces. Evolve Transform can also help with skin quality and muscle tone in the area. We talk through the order and the mix at your Brisbane consultation.
Fat freezing is not suitable if you have a cold-sensitivity condition, such as cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria, cold urticaria or Raynaud's. We also avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and over areas with a skin infection, open wounds or bad varicose veins. It is not suitable if you have significant nerve damage in the area, if you take blood-thinning medicines, or if you have a pacemaker or implanted device. It is also not for obesity. We check all of this carefully at your consultation.
Every cosmetic procedure carries some risk. These can include bruising, swelling, unevenness, infection, problems with blood vessels, and a result you are not happy with. With fat freezing, you may also have short-term numbness, redness, soreness and tingling in the area, which can last days to weeks. A rare but recognised risk is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where the fat in the treated area grows rather than shrinks. You can read more on our Risks & Complications page.
