Under-Eye Assessment

Under-Eye & Tear Trough ConcernsNewstead, Brisbane

Body Dezign House is a doctor-led clinic in Newstead, Brisbane. The under-eye is the most delicate part of the face. It is often the first place to show tiredness, hollows, dark circles, or change. Every consultation here is guided by your anatomy. We look at the eye area and the cheek together, and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Understanding the Under-Eye

Under-Eye Concerns
in Brisbane

About Dr Asadi
The under eye does not exist in isolation. How dark it reads from the front is influenced by different factors than how hollow it appears in three quarter view or how it relates to the cheek below. All perspectives are part of every assessment. The under eye's relationship to the cheek, the lower lid, the orbital rim, and the muscles that surround the eye is central to any meaningful discussion of options.

Our approach is careful and honest. We look at what is really driving your concern. It might be loss of support in the bone, changes in the fat pads, skin quality, pigmentation, visible veins, or a mix of these. We also look at whether any treatment is genuinely right for you.

Under-Eye Assessment

Areas Commonly
Assessed

Under-eye concerns often show up in a few ways at once: a hollow tear trough, dark circles, under-eye bags, fine lines, skin quality, or the cheek above starting to drop. At your consultation in Brisbane, we look at each of these on its own before we talk about any treatment.

Most Commonly Assessed

Tear Trough
Depth & Hollowness

The tear trough is the natural groove where the lower eyelid meets the cheek. Most faces have one. When it deepens, the eyes can look tired and the face a little drawn, even when you feel fine. We look at how deep it is across the inner, middle, and outer under-eye, and how it sits against the cheek below and the lid above.

Dark Circles
& Skin Quality

Dark circles come from a few different things: thin skin letting the veins show through, pigment that has settled into the area, or shadow cast by a hollow. Each type responds to a different treatment, so the first step is working out which type, or types, you have.

Under-Eye
Bags

Under-eye bags can come from fat that has shifted forward from where it used to sit, or from fluid that pools in the area. We work out which one is behind your bags, and what is driving it.

Skin Texture
& Fine Lines

The lower eyelid has the thinnest skin on the face, so it is often the first place to show fine lines, crepey texture, and early sun damage. We look at the texture, how hydrated the skin is, and how well it springs back, alongside anything deeper going on.

Age-Related
Under-Eye Changes

As the face matures, a few layers change at once in the under-eye. The bone around the eye thins, the cheek below starts to drop, the deeper fat pads lose some fullness, and the skin gets thin enough that veins and shadow start to show. These changes tend to feed into each other. That is why we look at the under-eye, the cheek, and the area around them as a whole, not as one problem on its own.

Cheek Support
& the Under-Eye

The under-eye and the cheek flow into one another. When the cheek loses fullness or drops, the under-eye can start to look more hollow, even when the eye itself has not changed. So we always check the cheek and the way it meets the lower lid.

Clinical Philosophy
Dark circles and hollows under the eyes are not always caused by lack of sleep. In many cases, they develop as the face changes over time, with less support beneath the eye and thinner skin making shadows more visible. A good consultation looks at the cause of the concern, not just the appearance, and helps guide the most appropriate next step.

Options

Approaches

Treatments We
May Discuss

The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. Your recommendation may include one option, a combination, or a different approach altogether after your skin has been properly assessed at our Brisbane clinic.

Volume Support

Volume Support Treatment

When the under-eye looks hollow because the support underneath has thinned, an in-clinic treatment may help. The focus is the deeper support around the tear trough and the upper cheek, where the under-eye meets the cheek, rather than anything sitting on the surface. This is a very delicate area, so the approach is always careful and conservative. Whether it suits you is only decided at a one-on-one consultation.

Collagen Stimulation

Collagen Stimulation

Over time the skin around the eye loses some of its own collagen, the protein that keeps it firm and springy. Here the focus is on the skin's own quality and support, so any change comes on slowly and looks natural rather than added on. It tends to suit skin-quality concerns and gentle support around the eye and cheek. Whether it is right for you is only decided at a one-on-one consultation.

Tissue Support & Lifting

Aptos Thread Lifts

When the cheek and the area below the eye start to drop, the tear trough deepens and the under-eye looks more hollow. Aptos threads can gently lift and support that tissue back toward the cheekbone, which can soften the tear trough from below rather than working on the under-eye directly. Dr Asadi is an Official Trainer for Aptos Threads.

Regenerative Treatments

Rejuran

Rejuran is a regenerative skin treatment often used for the delicate skin under the eye. It works gently with the skin to support repair, hydration, and overall quality. A course is usually discussed for thin under-eye skin, fine lines, dark circles linked to skin quality, and general fragility around the eye.

PRP

PRP uses growth factors from a small sample of your own blood to support the skin's healing and renewal around the eye. It may be worth discussing where the main concerns are skin quality, mild fine lines, or you would prefer an approach that uses your body's own resources.

Exosome Therapy

Exosome therapy uses regenerative signals to support the skin's repair and its own collagen. It may be relevant where skin quality and recovery are the main focus, and it is often combined with other treatments.

Skin Tightening Technologies

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 combines radiofrequency heat with fine microneedling to encourage the skin to firm and renew across the under-eye and upper cheek. It may be worth discussing for fine lines, looser skin, and skin quality, on its own or after regenerative or volume-support approaches.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to reach the deeper layers and support a more lifted look in the upper cheek and the area just below the eye. It may be relevant where the skin has loosened and the line between the lid and cheek looks longer, alongside other under-eye changes.

Laser Options

Lumecca IPL

Lumecca is an intense pulsed light treatment that works on visible veins and surface pigment around the under-eye. It may be worth discussing where dark circles come from small veins, or from pigment showing through the thin lower-eyelid skin.

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is a gentle laser that works on surface redness, fine veins, and overall skin tone around the under-eye. It may be relevant for a soft, spread-out darkness, redness, and general skin quality as part of a complete under-eye plan.

Skin Treatments

Skin Booster

Skin booster treatments deeply hydrate the skin and help the under-eye look more rested and healthy. They may be discussed for skin quality, hydration, and the early signs of thin or tired-looking skin around the eyes.

PRX-Plus

PRX-Plus is a skin treatment that supports the skin's own collagen and renewal without breaking the surface. It may be useful for early skin-quality and texture changes around the under-eye, as part of a wider skin plan.

Healite II LED

Healite II is an LED light treatment that supports healing, calms inflammation, and helps the skin recover after other treatments. It is often added after regenerative, laser, or skin treatments to help the delicate under-eye settle.

Surgical Care

Surgical Lower Blepharoplasty

Sometimes the right next step is a surgical opinion from an eye or plastic surgeon. Dr Asadi will give you an honest referral rather than offer an in-clinic option that will not do the job.

Skincare We Stock

ALASTIN Restorative Eye Complex with TriHex Technology®

An eye-area skincare product we stock at the clinic, often discussed as at-home support alongside in-clinic treatments for the under-eye area.

ZO Skin Health Neck Complex

A firming-feel neck cream we stock, often discussed for the look of the neck and jaw area.

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. Whether a treatment suits you, what might rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Questions

Frequently
Asked

Surgery tends to be the better path when the bags are pronounced, when there is a lot of loose lower-eyelid skin, or when the cheek has dropped a long way. In those cases the right next step is a surgical opinion from an eye or plastic surgeon. Which path is right for you is decided in person at a consultation. Individual results vary.

Under-eye concerns usually come from a few things happening together. The bone around the eye slowly thins, which deepens the natural hollow of the tear trough. The deeper fat pads behind the eye can shift forward, which can show as bags. The cheek below loses fullness and drops, so the line between the lid and the cheek gets longer. The skin here is the thinnest on the face, and over time it gets less stretchy and more see-through, so veins and shadow show more easily. Pigment can also build up from sun, allergies, or rubbing. We look at each of these at your consultation in Brisbane.

It depends on the treatment, your own body, your skin quality, and your lifestyle. Regenerative skin treatments are usually done as a course, and the skin can keep improving for months afterwards. Volume-support treatment can last from months to a few years, depending on the approach and how you respond. We talk through how long to expect at your consultation, based on the approach we suggest for you. Individual results vary.

The aim is to look fresher and more rested, not different. A careful approach works with your own face, so you still look like you, just less tired. How light the touch is, which areas we work on, and how we do it are all guided by your own anatomy, and we talk it all through at your consultation. Individual results vary.

Yes, very often. The under-eye sits right between the eye and the cheek, so it shows what is happening above and below it. When the cheek loses fullness or starts to drop, the tear trough tends to deepen and the under-eye can look darker, more hollow, or more tired. Supporting the cheek can soften that hollow and improve the line between the lid and the cheek. Whether this applies to you, and how much, is decided at your consultation. Individual results vary.

It depends a lot on the approach. Skin treatments and laser sessions usually need very little downtime, with any redness or mild swelling settling in a day or two. We talk through what to expect at your consultation, based on the approach we suggest for you. Individual results vary.

All cosmetic treatments carry some risk. These can include bruising, swelling, unevenness, infection, problems with blood vessels, and a result you are not happy with. The exact risks depend on the treatment, and we explain them in full at your consultation and again on the day. You can read more on our Risks & Complications page. Individual results vary.
