Lumecca IPLNewstead, Brisbane

Body Dezign House is a doctor-led clinic in Newstead, Brisbane. We treat sun spots, freckles, redness and visible vessels with Lumecca IPL, an intense pulsed light handpiece that carries two filters of light. The 515 nm filter suits fairer skin and surface pigment, and the 580 nm filter suits medium skin and small vessels. Having both lets us match the light to your skin type and your concern.

Lumecca IPL
in Brisbane

About Dr Asadi
The filter has to match the skin type. A 515 nm setting that suits one person can cause a colour change in another. With Lumecca we have both filters in the room, so the assessment chooses the filter, not the other way around.

Our approach to this laser is careful and honest. We look at how deep the concern sits, how widespread it is, how long you have had it, and your skin type. Then we weigh up whether Lumecca IPL is truly the right tool.

Clinical Indications

Commonly
Assessed

Lumecca IPL has been used for a range of pigment and vascular concerns, with the light filtered to match your skin type and what we are treating. Whether Lumecca IPL in Brisbane suits your skin is decided at your consultation.

Most Commonly Assessed

Sun Spots
& Lentigines

Sun spots (lentigines), freckles, and patchy surface colour are among the most common reasons people come in for Lumecca IPL in Brisbane. The light is taken up by the brown pigment near the surface, so these spots usually darken first, then flake off on their own over one to two weeks. How many spots there are, and where they sit, guides how many sessions we plan. Melasma is a different condition that needs its own careful assessment and is not usually treated with IPL.

Facial Redness
& Rosacea Patterns

Lasting facial redness, and the visible vessels that come with rosacea. Rosacea is a long-term condition we manage rather than cure, so any IPL course sits inside a wider medical and skincare plan we talk through at your consultation.

Broken
Capillaries

Fine broken capillaries, the small surface vessels you can see on the cheeks, around the nose, and across the face. The size of the vessels and where they sit guide the settings we use.

Cherry Angiomas
& Poikiloderma

Cherry angiomas are small red raised spots on the face, decolletage, and arms. Poikiloderma of Civatte is the mottled mix of redness and brown on the sides of the neck and chest. These mixed concerns often respond well to one IPL session, because both the brown pigment and the red of the vessels take up the same light.

Face, Neck, Decolletage
Hands, Arms & Legs

Lumecca is used most often on sun-damaged skin, including the face, neck, decolletage, hands, arms, and legs. Sun damage rarely sits on the face alone, so a Lumecca IPL assessment in Brisbane often looks at nearby areas at the same visit. The settings are adjusted for each part of the body and each skin type. Leg vessels, hand pigment, and chest poikiloderma are each booked on their own rather than crammed into one session.

Suitable Across
Skin Types I–IV

Lumecca is generally used on fair to medium skin (Fitzpatrick I to IV). The 515 nm filter usually suits the fairer types and the 580 nm filter the medium types. The deepest skin types (V to VI) are not suitable for IPL, and we talk through other options at your consultation.

Treatment Journey

Sessions, Preparation
& Recovery

At our Newstead clinic, Lumecca IPL is given as a course shaped around what we are treating. Surface brown spots and rosacea redness are planned differently to leg vessels or heavier pigment. What follows is a general guide. Your clinician will tailor the timing, the preparation, and the recovery advice to your skin type, your medical history, the medicines you take, and the area being treated.

Clinical Philosophy
Skin is honest about what has happened to it. Brown spots are a record of sun. Visible vessels are a record of redness and irritation over time. When the assessment is right, IPL can work with both at once. The filter, the energy, and the timing are chosen by the skin in front of me, not by the one spot we want gone.

Other Treatments
We May Discuss

Some skin concerns respond best to one treatment. Others may need a more layered approach, where different treatments are used to support different parts of the concern.

The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. Your recommendation may include one option, a combination, or a different approach altogether after your skin has been properly assessed at our Brisbane clinic.

Light & Healing Support

Healite II LED

A gentle LED light therapy that helps calm the skin and support healing after a treatment. We often pair it with Lumecca IPL sessions to settle redness, aid recovery, and keep you comfortable. Each session is short, delivered by our experienced team under Dr Asadi's supervision, and is included in tailored plans where it helps.

Skin Barrier & Surface Support

Signature Facial

A medical-grade facial, delivered by our experienced team under Dr Asadi's supervision, that supports the skin barrier and surface clarity between Lumecca IPL sessions. We adapt it to where you are in your course, and we avoid any actives that would clash with the IPL timing.

Chemical Peels

Medical-grade peels can support overall clarity and tone alongside a Lumecca course, especially when dullness or texture sits alongside the pigment or redness we are treating. We choose the type, depth, and timing of each peel to work with the IPL course, not against it. Peels are delivered by our experienced team under Dr Asadi's supervision.

Skin Quality & Collagen Support

Laser Genesis

A gentle 1064 nm laser given as soft micro-pulses that warm the deeper skin to support tone, the look of fine lines, and overall glow. We often discuss it for people who want to work on skin quality alongside the pigment and vessel work that Lumecca covers. Sessions are delivered by our experienced team under Dr Asadi's supervision.

Skin Boosters

Hydrating treatments that support skin quality, texture, and moisture in the skin. We discuss them for suitable patients as part of a longer-term plan, rather than as a stand-alone replacement for IPL.

Clear & Brilliant

A gentle fractional laser that supports tone, clarity, and a smoother surface. It may be added to work on skin quality once a Lumecca IPL course is well underway. It is delivered by our experienced team under Dr Asadi's supervision.

Personalised Plan & Skincare

Personalised Treatment Plan

After your consultation, we will prepare a personalised treatment plan based on your medical history, assessment, skin condition, and treatment goals. Your plan clearly explains the treatment options that may be appropriate for you, the recommended sequence of care where needed, expected costs, and realistic timeframes. We will also answer your questions and explain the reasons behind our recommendations, so you have a clear understanding of your options before deciding how you would like to proceed.

Personalised Skincare

Following your VISIA skin analysis and clinical assessment, Dr Fatemeh Asadi or one of our experienced clinicians will recommend a personalised skincare plan based on your skin's individual needs. Your skincare routine is selected to support your treatment plan and may be adjusted over time as your skin changes or your goals evolve.

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. Whether a treatment suits you, what might rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary. No outcome can be guaranteed. Read about Risks & Complications →

Questions

Frequently
Asked

Lumecca IPL has been used for a range of pigment and vascular concerns. These include sun spots (lentigines), freckles, uneven colour, lasting facial redness, the vessels seen with rosacea, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, and the mottled neck and chest pattern called poikiloderma of Civatte. Because there are two filters (515 nm and 580 nm), it has been used on fair to medium skin (Fitzpatrick I to IV) when carefully matched. The 515 nm filter is generally for the fairer types and the 580 nm filter for the medium types. It does not suit everyone. Recent sun, an active tan, light-sensitising medicines, pregnancy, some pigment conditions such as melasma, and the deepest skin types (V to VI) need careful individual assessment and may not suit IPL. Whether it is right for you is decided at a full consultation, not online.

Most people are looking at a course of three to six sessions, about four weeks apart. Some surface brown spots and small vessels may respond well after one or two sessions. Heavier pigment, or the vessels seen with rosacea, may need a longer course. Top-up sessions every six to twelve months are decided case by case, based on how the result holds over time. Your own course is discussed at your consultation.

Most people have mild redness and warmth in the treated area for a few hours after the session, a bit like mild sunburn. Brown spots usually darken over the next 24 to 48 hours, then flake off on their own over one to two weeks. When we treat vessels, you may see them fade or change colour for a short time. For most facial sessions, you can get back to normal the same day. Treated areas need daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+, and you should stay out of the sun through the whole course. Individual experience varies.

Lumecca IPL is used most often on sun-damaged skin, including the face, neck, decolletage, hands, arms, and legs. The same machine, with its two filters, is used across all of these areas, with the settings adjusted for each part of the body, your skin type, and the concern. Whether a particular area suits IPL is decided when we examine you, and leg vessels and some areas are considered on their own.

How it feels varies from person to person, between filters, and between areas. Most people describe a brief warm snap with each pulse, a bit like a light flick of an elastic band, eased by the cooled sapphire tip. The 580 nm filter usually feels a little stronger than the 515 nm. Please tell us how you are finding it during the session, and we can adjust the settings as we go and at later visits. Numbing cream is not usually needed because of the built-in cooling, though we can talk about it for sensitive areas.

Gentle cleansing, a fragrance-free moisturiser, and daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ are the basics of recovery through the whole course. Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and hard exercise are usually paused for 24 to 48 hours. Let brown spots flake off on their own, and do not pick or scrub them. Strong skincare actives, such as retinoids and acids, are brought back slowly, guided by your clinician. Reviews between sessions let us watch how your skin responds and fine-tune the plan.

All light-based treatments carry some risk. These include redness, short-term swelling, blistering, a colour change in the skin afterwards (lighter or darker), infection, and a result that does not meet your hopes. Recent sun or an active tan raises the risk of colour change and burns, which is why we ask you to avoid the sun beforehand. In some cases, brown spots darken for a time and small bruises can appear where vessels were treated; this is part of the expected response. Your own risks depend on your skin type and what we are treating, and we go through them in full at your consultation and again on the day.
