Understanding Cellulite

Cellulite
in Brisbane

About Dr Asadi
Cellulite is not about what you weigh. It is about where the connective tissue holds the fat, and how the skin above it has aged. The dimples you see are fat held in place by those bands while the skin over them has thinned. An honest consultation looks at each layer on its own, and is clear about what treatment can change and what was partly set before you were born.

Our approach is careful and honest. We look at what is really driving your concern. It might be the connective tissue bands beneath the skin, a thinning dermis, the effect of weight change, slowed blood and lymph flow, or a mix of these. We also look at whether any treatment is genuinely right for you.

Cellulite Assessment

Areas Commonly
Assessed

Cellulite can look different on different parts of the body, and at different stages of life. At our Newstead clinic in Brisbane, we assess each area together with the skin quality above it, the changes in structure below, and any relevant health history.

Most Commonly Assessed

Thighs
& Buttocks

The inner and outer thighs and the buttocks are the most common spots for visible cellulite. Here the fibrous bands run straight up and down, so the dimpling shows clearly when the skin above thins or the fat swells. We look at how visible the cellulite is (only when you press the skin, when you stand, or even when you lie down), how thick the skin is, and your history of weight change in this area.

Abdomen
& Flanks

Cellulite on the lower tummy and flanks (the sides of your waist) is common. It can be made more noticeable by weight gain, pregnancy, and fast weight loss. Loose skin here after fast fat loss, including from weight management treatments, is often part of the picture. We look at how firm the skin is along with the structure underneath.

Upper
Arms

The upper arms are a common area for cellulite and skin laxity (loose skin), often made worse by fast weight loss. We look at the dimpling and the looseness together.

Skin Firmness
& Laxity

We assess the thickness and quality of the skin above the cellulite on its own, separately from the dimpling underneath. Skin that has thinned or lost its stretch over time responds to treatment differently from firmer skin, so we tailor the plan to suit. This matters most for people who have had fast changes in body weight.

Post-Weight-Change
Assessment

After a big change in weight, whether through lifestyle, weight-loss surgery, or weight management treatments, cellulite and loose skin often turn up together and feed into each other. Here we look at both the surface of the skin and the structure beneath, across several areas of the body. We take account of how fast the weight changed. And we are honest about what is likely to respond to treatment and what may need a surgeon's opinion for the most significant looseness. The consultation is a safe, private and non-judgmental conversation.

Circulation
& Lymphatic

We note any signs of poor lymph drainage or swelling on both sides of the body. If the signs point to lymphoedema or a blood-flow problem, the first step is a GP referral, not cosmetic treatment.

Clinical Philosophy
An outer thigh that once looked smooth now shows dimpling even at rest. Underneath, fat is pushing up between the connective bands, those bands are pulling the skin down, and a thinning dermis can no longer smooth over what sits below. A good consultation looks at each of these on its own. And it is honest about what treatment can really improve, and what your biology makes permanent.

Approaches

Treatments We
May Discuss

There is no cure for cellulite. The treatments listed here are examples of what may be considered. They are not a treatment plan and do not mean you will need all of them. Which approach suits you depends on what the assessment shows, and whether a treatment is right for you is decided at a full consultation at our Newstead clinic in Brisbane.

Structural & Dermal Remodelling

Morpheus8 RF Microneedling

Morpheus8 combines radiofrequency energy with microneedling to help build collagen and thicken the skin above the cellulite. By working in the dermis and the layer just beneath it, it may help firm the skin, soften the look of dimpling, and improve overall texture. It is one of the most talked-about energy-based options for the loose skin that comes with cellulite.

Vivace RF Microneedling

Vivace RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy precisely through fine tips, helping collagen activity and skin firmness. We may discuss it when a more targeted approach suits the state of your skin and the area being treated.

Skin Firmness & Quality

PRX-Plus Biorevitalisation

PRX-Plus is a leave-on treatment from WiQo that supports collagen and skin firmness without any visible peeling. On areas affected by cellulite, we may discuss it as part of a wider plan to improve the skin on top, especially where surface texture and mild looseness are a concern.

Collagen Stimulation

Collagen stimulation can thicken the skin and improve the quality of the tissue above the connective bands over time. It works slowly, as the skin builds more support of its own. Whether this is right for you is only decided at a full consultation.

Medical Referral Pathway

GP & Specialist Referral

If the assessment suggests lymphoedema, lipoedema, or a real blood-flow or lymph concern, the right first step is a GP review and the right medical or surgical assessment, not cosmetic treatment. In the same way, if loose skin after fast weight loss would be better helped by a surgeon's opinion, we offer a referral. We will always say clearly when this is the better path, and we will support you in taking it.

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and possible side effects. Whether a treatment suits you, what might rule it out, and the full range of possible complications are all discussed at your consultation. Individual results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Questions

Frequently
Asked

Cellulite mostly comes down to the connective tissue bands (called fibrous septae) that anchor your skin to the layers below. In women, these bands run straight up and down, so fat can bulge up between them and create the dimpled look. In men, they sit at an angle that holds the fat more firmly in place. Hormones, mainly oestrogen, drive this difference. It is why cellulite affects about 80 to 90 percent of women after puberty and fewer than 10 percent of men.

Yes. Losing weight fast, from any cause, including weight management treatments, can make cellulite look worse. The fat under the skin drops faster than the skin can shrink back. The skin loses its support, becomes looser, and the dimpling shows up more. Losing weight slowly is less likely to do this. If you are on a weight management treatment and notice changes in how firm your skin feels, it is worth discussing at a consultation.

There is no cure for cellulite right now. The connective bands behind it are partly something you are born with and partly structural, and no treatment changes them for good. But the look can improve with approaches that support the skin, boost collagen, and firm up the affected areas. The aim is honest improvement, not getting rid of it completely. What is realistic for your pattern is discussed at a consultation. Individual results vary.

Cellulite is a structural, cosmetic concern involving the connective bands, the fat, and the skin. Lymphoedema is a medical condition where the body's drainage system (the lymphatic system) is damaged or blocked, so fluid builds up and causes swelling and skin changes that can look like severe cellulite. If the swelling is on both sides, does not settle, pits when pressed, or comes with heaviness, tightness or repeated skin infections, the right first step is a check with your GP before any cosmetic treatment. Cosmetic treatment is not suitable for active lymphoedema without medical clearance.

At Body Dezign House in Newstead, we may discuss a few approaches, depending on what the assessment shows. These include collagen stimulation, Morpheus8 RF microneedling, Vivace RF microneedling, and PRX-Plus for skin firmness. No single treatment covers every part of cellulite, so the best mix is discussed at a full consultation. Individual results vary.

Losing weight slowly may make cellulite less visible, because it eases the pressure fat puts on the bands from below. But the bands themselves are the main driver, so cellulite can stay even at a low weight, and losing weight fast can actually make it show more. What matters most is how fast and how you lose the weight, not the number on the scales. We discuss this honestly at a consultation. Individual results vary.

All cosmetic procedures carry risks, including bruising, swelling, unevenness, infection, problems with blood vessels, and a result you are not happy with. The exact risks depend on the treatment. We explain them in full at your consultation and again on the day. You can read more on our Risks & Complications page.
