What causes it is that the layer of fat underneath the skin presses against tissue, causing the skin around it to give the dimple effect we so commonly see. Some times during periods of high estrogen, the estrogen itself breaks down collagen fibres, allowing the fat cells to move upward towards the skin.
Cellulite affects both men and women of all shapes and sizes and generally appears around the hips, buttocks, thighs and stomach. Factors such as poor diet, smoking and higher body fat percentage can worsen the effects of cellulite.
